The UN Sustainable Development Goals as a Global Action Plan – Significance for Germany and Great Britain
Friday 22. March 2019, 18:00
A presentation by Dr Dina Barbian, Institute for Sustainability, Nuremberg.
As Ban Ki-moon (United Nations Secretary-General, 2007 to 2016) stated in 2012 at the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) “We don’t have plan B because there is no planet B!”. Now is the time to take the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) serious and to unite all efforts for people, planet and prosperity.
Dina Barbian will start her talk with an explanation of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals established for 15 years until 2030. These goals (also known as Agenda 2030) are part of Resolution 70/1 of the United Nations General Assembly.
The SDGs cover social, environmental and economic development issues including poverty, hunger, health, education, global warming, gender equality, water and sanitation, energy, urbanization and social justice.
Dr. Barbian will describe the status of the SDGs in Germany and in Great Britain, focusing not only on similarities but also on differences.
How can a city such as Nürnberg or any other region measure their performance in SDGs? And what can be done by each and every one of us in order that we live sustainably?
All these questions will be discussed during this presentation.
